Troy House shoots for thermador

Every year since 1973, the Kips Bay Decorator Show House transforms a Manhattan residence into one of the design world's most anticipated events. The country's most acclaimed interior designers take over a space, raise funds for the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, and set the tone for where design is heading. Troy had been there before as a guest of a friend who was designing a room. This time he came back with a camera and a brief from Thermador.

The main kitchen was designed by acclaimed interior designer Christopher Peacock and featured Thermador appliances throughout, with two additional kitchenettes elsewhere in the house also showcasing the brand. Troy's approach to shooting the appliances was anything but literal. He used their interior light to give them an almost portrait-like glow, finding the beauty in the objects themselves rather than just documenting the room around them. It's something he does across all his work — whether he's shooting people, interiors, food or still life, he brings the same compositional eye to everything, capturing a space while also shaping it.

Working with a tight crew, just himself and a dp, Troy also sat down with Christopher Peacock for an interview about his design vision and his love for the Thermador brand.

You can watch the interview and see more from the shoot here.
